Below, learn more about Gloria Janeva and what a day in the life of a graphic designer looks like.
Why did you become a graphic designer? What attracted you to this profession?
I was always a child who was happy with every pencil and sketchbook I bought, and it still is! I knew for myself that one day I would definitely end up with a creative working profession (although many have trouble deciding on it, but that should not scare you, everything comes in its own time). My story began with drawing illustrations, the personal passion for science and art that later led me to the Faculty of Architecture, the real “culprit” that connected me to the design process. A deeper acquaintance and what the profession of a graphic designer actually means were my “realization” and self-discovery.
Explain to us the process of creating a design piece.
Challenging and fun! Getting to know the client and understanding the brand is the first point on the sheet, which will later grow into a line. Are you expecting straight lines? No… It will end in a mess and a whole maze! Once you have all the necessary information, the first move is research. You are inspired by other designers, the environment you are in, and sometimes a random expression can be the fruit of your idea. You cannot make a “boom” in two days. This is a process that takes time, and you need to be patient. Looking for colors, fonts, elements that build the brand and the story are a key part. The innate idea, sooner or later, will grow into a visual image. In conclusion, I will refer to the quote from Saul Bass, which fits perfectly with the whole process “Design is thinking made visual”.
To become a successful graphic designer, you need to be yourself and constantly improve yourself.
