What are the 7 habits of highly effective people?
When interviewing top entrepreneurs and investors, they are always asked one question: "What is the secret of your success?", and it is very common for their answers to be similar and to be simplified into " habits ." Although it may seem common to many, habits make a big difference.
Entrepreneurs cite habits as one of the main secrets to success. But this is not only true at a professional level; habits can also allow us to grow personally.
This book, also classified as a self-help book, brings together three powerful sections that mention thirty-two principles related to the seven habits.
So, let's learn a little more about how this book can help us change our habits and become highly effective people.
Part I: Paradigms and principles
In this first part of the book, the author focuses on paradigms and principles such as character ethics. He presents the power of a paradigm and its change. In addition to mentioning other principles such as those referring to development and change, he also defines effectiveness.
It is a kind of introduction that allows us to better understand the purpose of the book and how to use it to get the most out of what we manage to learn.
Part II: Private Victory
The second part of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People mentions the first three habits. It also invites us to take the initiative and act, to commit and to fulfill our commitments. It also explains in detail what each habit means.
Habit 1: Be proactive
Proactive people have the ability to anticipate. This allows them to take control over situations that warrant it and to assume certain responsibilities . This allows them to develop a fairly advantageous independence in any life circumstance in which they find themselves.
7 habits of highly effective people
Stephen explains that when it comes to this point, there can be two types of people:
Proactive people . Those who are able to take responsibility for their own lives, behave consciously and make reasonable decisions based on their principles. They do not let themselves be carried away by circumstances but are able to take on new challenges and exercise a kind of social responsibility.
Reactive people. These are people who adopt an indifferent attitude towards the situations that happen to them. Therefore, they distance themselves and see these circumstances as something external to them. Unfortunately, not anticipating certain things results in reacting in the moment. This means that they have little control over their lives and that they adopt passive attitudes.
The author begins the explanation of this first habit by quoting the wonderful phrase by Henri David Thoreau:
“I know of no more encouraging fact than man's unquestionable capacity to dignify his life through conscious effort.”
Giving a stronger argument to his idea, Stephen uses this powerful phrase to talk about self-awareness and the ability that humans have to use it.
This ability will be essential to be proactive. When we use our self-awareness, we can put into practice a conscious effort that will be able to obtain excellent results. Resulting in: Becoming highly effective people.
Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind
This habit is based on first defining and establishing our goal with respect to what we want to achieve. In turn, it is necessary to put it on paper and identify all the components necessary to meet our objective , to carry out our business idea.
