Which agile methodology should you use in your SME?

Agile methodology itself is a framework on which strategies to be followed in order to manage projects are developed. Each company chooses the agile method that best suits it, such as Kanban or Scrum , and more and more companies are moving away from the traditional system called Waterfall.

waterfall-method

The Waterfall method shows a methodology that causes downtime and at the same time that there are departments that sit on their hands until the project reaches them. It requires exhaustive documentation and until the dental email database lists project is up and running it takes a few days. SMEs have realized that this method is not optimal for their businesses. Using this method the project is delivered at the end of the whole process and they are usually long processes . I am talking about months and even years in which the needs change , but the project remains immutable and when it is delivered to the client it is no longer useful.

In contrast to the Waterfall method are the agile methods . In this methodology the project is divided into minimum work units, achievable by a single person, in such a way that it is possible to meet the established objective in a short period of time (between one and four weeks). In the agile methodology it is very important that the work teams of a project are not too numerous, although it does depend on the type of company. The best thing would be to have a team of no more than 8 people, so that they do not lose sight of the extent to which their work affects the project and the work of their colleagues.

Agile

As you can see in this image, tasks can overlap. Imagine that it is like playing Tetrix! Another

reason to adopt agile methods in an SME is that the client has visibility of what is being done, and thus make them part of it. In this way you can make sure that you are on the right track.
By using shorter production periods (sprints of one week or two weeks), we can assess the deviations we have, we can see if the client likes what we are doing and in the case of any changes we will have room to maneuver to adapt our strategy.
I show you a video where you can see the differences between Waterfall and agile methods.

I have just “ dropped ” a term that may seem unfamiliar to you: the sprint. The sprint is the “darling” of the agile method, since it is a short period of time in which you have to be able to finish tasks that have been previously defined. And it is short precisely because if we make a mistake, or the client does not like it, it allows us to reorient the strategy. Generally, the client is made aware of how the project is going, so they will be calm and their uncertainty about the delivery will decrease.
