You know when, for example, you search for a book on Amazon and the next day you find the post promoting it on your Facebook wall? And you ask yourself: but how did they know that you wanted to buy it?

Here it is, retargeting (or remarketing), that form of advertising that allows you to promote a post, a content to an audience (Custom Audience) that has already visited your site or, even better, is interested in a certain product.

All this is possible through the infamous cookies that track users who visit a site in a certain period of time. In fact, visitors to your website are not the same: some visitors have a stronger purchasing intent and recognizing them becomes therefore fundamental.

The latest news is that Facebook has introduced new rules, the “Website cell phone number database Custom Audience rules”. This extension (WCA) allows you to build the retargeting audience based on different actions that the user performs on the landing page of the ad on which he clicked, such as the time spent on the website, the type of device used or if he clicked one or more times on a specific event.

Custom Audience: already used? Here it is, retargeting (or remarketing), that form of advertising that allows you to promote a post, a content to an audience (Custom Audience) that has already visited your site or, even better, is interested in a certain product.
A food delivery company could “re-target” a lot of “hot” customers with a coupon. The targeting of this customer group could be for example “all visitors to the site during the last 7 days.” or “all visitors who spent an average of €15 per order.”

An online retailer could exclude visitors who spent less than 10 seconds on their website even though they came from ad campaigns, they are likely to have a low purchase intent. They could also create two other new audiences: 1) An audience of visitors who spent up to 1 minute on the site and combine it with a low CPC bid campaign. 2) An audience of visitors who spent more than 1 minute and combine it with a high CPC bid campaign.

An electronics eCommerce could retarget customers who have spent more than €500 during the last 30 days. Likewise, a hotel booking site could retarget visitors who have searched for hotel nights with a check-in date within the next 3 days but have not yet booked. And so on…

Now you just need to understand who your ideal custom audience is and… get started!
