Usually, redesign (as a technology for improving business processes) is necessary when the customer's needs or requirements for the product undergo changes. The algorithms subject to transformation are already working successfully and have shown themselves to be on the good side, but need to be adjusted in accordance with the new situation.

When redesigning a process, it is necessary to create a simulation model that reflects its real state. This method is widely used in various enterprises. American quality management specialist James Harrington believes that process redesign can be used in almost 90% of cases. It is appropriate to combine it with benchmarking so that the new solution corresponds to the standard.

This concept came to us from the corresponding activity and comes from the English word engineering – to design, invent, think up. Now it does not have a clear definition. Some specialists consider the method a general concept, which includes reengineering of procedures and their optimization. Researchers of modern management A. Bolshakov and V. Mikhailov see it as a new way of thinking. With it, the view on the creation of the organization structure and improvement of the company's business processes is formed by analogy with the principles of inventive activity.

Doctor of Economics P. Kutelev conducted an interesting study of this method. He suggests the concept of "Organizational Engineering". With this term, the specialist designated the features of the formation of business processes that are in a single information field. Other researchers perceive this method as the creation of a management system and a set of production procedures from scratch.

Engineering is difficult to imagine as one of the ways to improve the processes of an organization that is already operating. If an enterprise is functioning, it means that business processes are taking place in it. It is unlikely that the company's management will want to completely abandon the existing order and create a new system. The efficiency of business processes and the degree of their integration are improved using other methods. Therefore, we believe that engineering is suitable only when working on creating organizations or launching new types of business. In this case, the method will allow you to take into account the existing experience in the chosen area and practice the optimal way of managing processes.

The cardinal measures that will be applied during engineering depend on the management model it will be oriented towards. The object of influence can be a process (1st) or functional-specialized (2nd) type of management. If we evaluate the whole picture as a whole, then engineering still rather refers to the methods of the first.

But you can look at the situation from the other side. If the optimization method is used to organize new types of activities of an existing enterprise, then ultimately it will lead to changes in the entire business model of the company. Its impact can affect the performance of the organization as a whole, so indirectly engineering can be attributed to technologies for improving labor processes.
