UNIDO standard

The standards developed by the UN, namely the UNIDO Industrial Development Department, have gained the greatest popularity in Russia. However, the standards created by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the international audit company KPMG, and many others are also in effect.

EBRD standard

The EBRD (European Bank for business owner database Reconstruction and Development) has prepared a standard for businessmen who expect to receive a loan to develop their business. The amounts of loans are large (from €5,000,000 (402,950,000 rubles) and up), so we are talking about cases when you need to write a business plan for a large or medium-sized business.

BFM Group Standard

Prepared by BFM Group, whose field of activity is business planning and consulting. In essence, it has the same requirements as the UNIDO version, but it is a more extended version. And the emphasis is on analyzing the current market and financial position of a company or product.

This is what is put at the forefront of BFM Group standards:

calculation of as many financial indicators as possible;

analysis of the intensity of fluctuations in profit indicators when business parameters change;

forecast of monthly expenses for the entire period of project implementation.

KPMG Standard

KPMG is a member of the Big Four (a group of the world's largest audit firms). Along with auditing, it provides consulting and business planning services.

KPMG standards are quite popular in the world, but the same cannot be said about Russia. The peculiarity of this company's requirements is the increased attention to a large number of marketing and financial indicators for the project. Technical aspects are described in less detail (in comparison with other current standards).

Business Plan Writing Standards

TACIS standard

A program prepared by the European Union and aimed at supporting market reforms in the CIS countries. In general, the structure and content of the business planning standards presented here echoes the requirements of UNIDO.

Russian standards

Private investors can use the international standards for writing business plans listed above. But if you are counting on a bank loan or government funding, keep in mind that different institutions may have their own specific requirements. This is something to be sure to inquire about.
