You can't be associated with WordPress and not have seen the charming mascot Wapuu at least once. He appeared in 2009 at WordCamp Tokyo, when the creator of WordPress and Automattic – Matt Mullenweg – was looking for ways to promote the system in Japan. One of the ideas was to create a mascot, which is gaining popularity among IT companies, and Reddit, Firefox and Android already have their favorites.

Thus, illustrator Kazuko Kaneuchi was tasked with creating a memorable mascot for the WordPress community. Wapuu officially appeared almost rcs data turkey years later – at WordCamp Fukoka in February 2011, and received its name a week later.

The creators decided that Wapuu's rights will be under the GNU license, which means that it is freely distributed and everyone has the right to build on, use, change and embellish it. The original Wapuu files can be downloaded from here . That's why no WordCamp is complete without the cute mascot being "dressed" in traditional event attire.
