If the case is successful in both the British and Dutch courts, Google could be faced with one of the largest lawsuits in its history . The lawsuit, which was filed by a Belgian law firm, is seeking compensation of 25 billion euros for companies harmed by Google. This is much higher than the amount faced by the American multinational in previous lawsuits. The last lawsuit imposed by the European Commission on Google was, for example, worth 1.49 billion euros.
"Publishers, including national and local media that play a crucial role in our society, have long been harmed by Google's anti-competitive behaviour ," says Damien Geradin of the Belgian law firm Geradin Partners.
“It is time for Google to take responsibility and pay for the damage it has caused to this important industry. This is why we are today announcing these lawsuits across two jurisdictions, to achieve compensation for both British and European publishers ,” Geradin stresses.
