We are at an important moment for the music industry. I call it important because the path that producers, distributors, artists, etc. follow may be crucial. Will they follow the natural evolution that society imposes? Or, on the contrary (and as some seem to defend) will they remain entrenched in their dominant and totalitarian position?
It seems that some have already realized this and, thanks to facebook data Youtube, will follow another path. I am talking about OK Go , famous on the Internet for their spectacular music videos, full of talent and ingenuity that, with a tight budget, managed to achieve very high reproductions. Until a few days ago, they were part of EMI Music, but seeing the poor use that their music videos were given to promote their albums (and other similar problems), they have decided to cut their losses and create their own music label.
One of these problems was the impossibility of “embedding” (making it easier to place the video in media/websites/blogs thanks to platforms like Youtube or Vimeo) the latest video clip outside the USA. This was a major problem, since the famous copyright (owned by EMI?) was at odds with the desire of musicians to reach more people. Barriers to the Internet? With viral pieces of this calibre, there are no barriers that can stop it.
We leave you the video of the music video so you can judge for yourselves:
This Too Shall Pass (OK Go): With the Internet, there are no barriers
