Since April 2002, Google Inc. has offered an online service that aggregates the main news on the web: Google News.
This service allows users to read news online or offline, follow newspapers or topics of interest, add bookmarks and share articles. At the same time, it allows publishers to give greater visibility to their content , increase organic positioning, increase traffic and conversions, improve brand reputation, increase advertising revenue (both through banners and affiliate circuits) and encourage the virality of what they publish.
A project present on Google News, in fact, has a different credibility.
According to Matt Southern , there appears to be a public bias towards what Google usefulness of self employed database offers rather than the original sources.
Google News was developed based on Story Rank, an approach similar to that used for PageRank, by Krishna Bharat, Google's chief researcher. The ranking is determined algorithmically , based on a series of empirical indicators including: novelty of content, variety, informative textual content, originality and user preferences for topics or publishers. Google itself states that:
We adapt to users' habits and routines to make it easier for readers to find relevant and interesting content. We use machine learning to improve the quality of personalized content over time.
Topic cataloging is the only human-driven work within Google News. This team of curators provides structure, subtopics, and related topics, and helps users follow a story or find a specific source.
