The most common reason for journal exclusion from Scopus is poor quality of published materials, as detected by Radar, Elsevier’s monitoring system that tracks deterioration in scientometric indicators. “Publication Concerns” is the second most common reason for journal exclusion from Scopus.

What does the Radar system monitor?
The Radar system, developed by Elsevier, identifies deterioration in the performance of journals indexed in Scopus. The main reasons for disqualification of scientific publications by the Radar system are:

violation of publication ethics

lack of peer review

artificial citation inflation

an abnormal number of publications, raising doubts about their quality

acceptance of articles without careful evaluation and selection

a sharp change in scientific focus.

Removing publications from the database for the reasons stated above helps Scopus maintain a high level of quality and reliability of published materials.
